Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you never wanted to know but were required to ask anyway
Game Basics
What is Benefit Hero?
Benefit Hero is a satirical idle clicker game where you navigate the wonderfully byzantine world of the benefits system. Fill out mind-numbing forms, claim increasingly lucrative benefits, and defend against random governmental "initiatives" designed to make your virtual life harder. All while managing your precious energy reserves, of course.
Is this game making fun of people on benefits?
Absolutely not. Our satire targets the often absurd and Kafkaesque nature of bureaucratic systems, not the people who need to use them. We punch up at the maze of paperwork, arbitrary rules, and Byzantine processes—never down at vulnerable individuals navigating these systems.
How do I play?
Click to fill out forms, earn money, spend energy to claim benefits, and purchase items to restore your will to live (aka energy). Deal with random crises by investing in defenses. The game automatically saves your progress, so you can come back anytime to check on your burgeoning benefits empire.
Gameplay Mechanics
What are the main resources in the game?
Benefit Hero features two primary resources: Money and Energy. Money is earned through processing claim forms and receiving benefits. Energy is required to claim benefits and regenerates slowly over time. Much like real life, there's never quite enough of either.
What are crisis events?
Crisis events are random occurrences that negatively impact your gameplay—like sudden benefit freezes, surprise assessments, or the system mysteriously losing your paperwork (again). Invest in defenses to mitigate these crises, or simply weather the storm like a true British stoic.
How do I progress in the game?
Purchase upgrades to improve your form-filling efficiency, energy regeneration, and claim values. Add family members for multiplier effects. Unlock new content as you reach progression milestones. Remember: in Benefit Hero, it's not about how hard you work—it's about how smartly you play the system that was designed to be unplayable!
Technical Questions
Does the game work on mobile?
Yes! Benefit Hero is designed to be responsive and playable on both desktop and mobile browsers. We're also working on dedicated mobile apps for iOS and Android for future releases. Because nothing says "productive use of time" like optimizing your benefits strategy during your commute.
Will my progress be saved?
Your game automatically saves to local storage on your device. Unlike the real benefits system, we don't lose your paperwork! However, clearing your browser cache will reset your game, so be careful with spring cleaning your digital life.
Is the game free to play?
Yes, the web version of Benefit Hero is completely free to play. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core gameplay will always remain free. Unlike the real world, our economy doesn't require actual currency exchange.
Behind the Game
Who created Benefit Hero?
Benefit Hero was created by a small team of developers and writers who've all had their fair share of bureaucratic adventures. We've transformed our collective exasperation into something hopefully entertaining and cathartic for players.
Is this game political?
Benefit Hero focuses on the universal experience of dealing with complex bureaucratic systems rather than specific political viewpoints. We're equal opportunity satirists—we find humor in the Byzantine nature of these systems regardless of who designed them. The game is more about shared human experiences than political commentary.
I have a suggestion for the game. How can I share it?
We love hearing from players! Visit our "Complaints Department" (feedback form) on the Contact page. Unlike actual government feedback forms, we actually read these. The best suggestions might make it into future updates—we'll even credit you if your idea makes the cut.
